The Labrador Heritage Society welcomes you to explore our museum, craft shop, tea room and historic town: North West River, the oldest community in Central Labrador, established in 1743 as a trading post by french fur trader Louis Fornel. From its beginnings, North West River has been a cultural meeting place for the Innu, Inuit, Metis and Settler people of Labrador.

Our historic facilities unveil the story of the Grenfell Mission, the trapper lifestyle, the Hubbard Expeditions and the Hudson Bay Company and the role each played within our community. The Museum is operated by the Labrador Heritage Society, a non profit volunteer organization. The purpose of the Society is to collect, protect and preserve the history and traditional culture of Labrador and its people.

If you are visiting Central Labrador, we invite you to take the 34km drive from Happy Valley - Goose Bay to enjoy the scenic landscape and our historic town. Come and explore local history, learn about the people and culture of the Lake Melville Region and explore our natural environment. North West River hosts Labrador's biggest music festival every summer, so come and enjoy our food and music for a memorable taste of Labrador.
