Beach Festival Logo (larger version)
North West River Beach Festival
The North West River Beach Festival was established in 1986 and since then, it has evolved not only into Labrador's largest outdoor music festival but a great Labrador tradition. If you are in the area on the 2nd last weekend in July, plan to enjoy the great music and great food. It's a two-day family event with music, food and games.

Entertainment begins at 11am each morning & runs until late into each night with nightly dancing outdoors. Detailed information can be found on the North West River Beach Festival website.

The Festival Stage, used during the Beach festival for performances, is often the site for "spontaneous concerts" of local musicians.

Mina Hubbard Celebrations (larger version)
The entire community of North West River was involved in the Mina Hubbard Centennial Celebrations held in 2005. That year marked the 100th anniversary of Mina Hubbard's successful journey across the wilderness of the Labrador to Ungava Bay, completing the trip on which her husband, Leonidas, had perished in 1903.

The community staged a reenactment which was filmed for a movie about Mina Hubbard. Costumed local residents acted out the arrival of Mina Hubbard by canoe. As part of the centennial events, the Mina Hubbard Symposium was held in the community and a Women's Retreat was offered on Grand Lake.

You can view photos of the centennial celebrations in the Mina Hubbard Centennial Photo Album in our Gallery.
